Hey there, and welcome to the club! You've just brought a cat home for the first time, and we bet you're feeling all the feels—partly thrilled, partly thinking, "What have I gotten myself into?" Don't worry, that's completely normal!

At FURRYTEL, Malaysia's top-notch cat hotel and spa, we've seen countless cats settle in. We know all the little tricks to make a cat feel safe, loved, and happy. This guide is your new best friend, designed to make your furry companion's transition to their forever home as smooth as a fresh scoop of ice cream.

1. Operation: Sanctuary Prep

Before your new cat even sets a paw inside, a little prep work goes a long way. Creating a cozy hideout will help them feel secure and ready to explore when they're good and ready.

The "Safe Room": Find a small, quiet space like a spare bedroom or a bathroom. This is their base camp, away from the chaos of the whole house. Make sure all their essentials are in here to start.

Essential Supplies:

  • Litter Box: A clean bathroom is a happy cat's bathroom! We're obsessed with a stainless steel litter box at all our FURRYTEL suites, and for good reason. It's a hygiene superstar, doesn't trap smells, and is super easy to clean. Place it somewhere quiet, far from their food and water.

  • Food and Water Bowls: Cats are picky about this! They prefer their water bowl to be a good distance from their food. Keep it fresh and filtered!

  • Food: Stick to what they're used to for the first week to avoid any tummy troubles. You can gradually introduce new food later.

  • Cozy Bedding & Hideouts: Cats love to hide! Give them a comfy bed, but also a few cardboard boxes. It’s their way of feeling safe and in control.

Safety First: Cats are basically furry detectives with a knack for finding trouble. "Cat-proof" your home by securing electrical cords and moving any toxic plants out of reach.

2. The Grand Arrival: A Low-Key Welcome

The first day is all about patience. You'll want to smother them with love, but let's take it slow.

Give Them Space: When you get home, put the carrier in their "safe room" and open the door.

Let them come out on their schedule. No prying or forcing them out!

Keep It Quiet: Your home is a brand-new world for them. Keep the noise down and hold off on

inviting all your friends over. A calm vibe is key to building trust.

Building Trust: Just hang out quietly in the room. Read, scroll on your phone, whatever. This

lets them get used to your presence without pressure. Toss them a treat or a toy to create some

positive vibes!

3. The First Week and Beyond: Get into a Groove

Cats are all about routine. A predictable schedule helps them feel secure and comfortable in their new kingdom.

Consistent Feeding Times: They'll be waiting for you! Stick to a regular feeding schedule.

Playtime is Prime Time: Use a wand toy to get them moving. This isn't just for exercise;

It's also a great way to bond and tap into their inner hunter. Just a pro tip: your hands are

not toys!

Grooming: Gently brushing your cat is a fantastic way to bond and keep their coat looking

fabulous. Starting this early will make future grooming sessions (or a trip to a cat spa

like FURRYTEL!) a breeze.

Patience is Your Superpower: Some cats will be purring and loving on day one, while

others might be shy for a bit. That's okay! Let them set the pace.

4. Don't Skip the Vet Visit

Make an appointment with a vet within the first week or two. This is a must-do to make sure your new cat is healthy, has all their shots, and to chat about things like microchipping and spaying/neutering.

5. Taking a Holiday? FURRYTEL's Got You!

When it's time for you to take a much-needed break, you'll want a place you can trust. That's where we come in!
